Abstract: Wood has been engineered as laminated veneer lumber, glued-laminated timber, and more recently as cross-laminated timber (CLT) to be used in the building sector. These innovations are being developed to enhance sustainability in construction and to change the convention of using materials such as steel and concrete, which usually incorporate high embodied carbon and energy. These mass timber innovations, which are penetrating the building sector, will help to reduce carbon emissions, store large amount of carbon for long times, and positively impact forest regeneration.

Keywords: mass timber building; Adohi Hall; cross laminated timber; life cycle assessment; life cycle cost
