| Free Earth Day Showings of "Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time" | |
 Madison, Wis.- The USDA Forest Products Laboratory has just announced two free showings of the critically acclaimed documentary "Green Fire: Aldo Leopold and a Land Ethic for Our Time". This one hour high definition film will be shown in conjunction with FPL's Earth Day Open House on Friday, April 22nd. Showings will be at 10 a.m. and 12 p.m.
A joint production of the Aldo Leopold Foundation, the US Forest Service, and the Center for Humans and Nature, Green Fire explores the life and legacy of famed conservationist and Wisconsin resident Aldo Leopold, and the many ways his land ethic idea is living on in the work of people and organizations all over the country today. The film shares highlights from Leopold's life and extraordinary career, explaining how he shaped conservation and the modern environmental movement.
FPL's Open House will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and the public is invited to tour the facilities, meet the scientists, and learn about the historic past and promising future of the Nation's only federal wood research laboratory. Highlights include tours of the new Centennial Research Facility, Research Demonstration House, Carriage House; displays on cutting-edge research projects; free wood identification service; kids activities with prizes; and much more.
The USDA Forest Service Forest Products Laboratory was established in 1910 in Madison, Wisconsin, with the mission to conserve and extend the country's wood resources. Today, FPL's research scientists work with academic and industrial researchers and other government agencies in exploring ways to promote healthy forests and clean water and improve papermaking and recycling processes.
